SOFTLY DOES IT
If she wants the money she has to want the money shot.

We've shown you a lot of Japanese promo posters for U.S. x-rated movies, and the reason for that is the Japanese promos are artful and interesting. The stateside promos, not so much. This one is an exception. It was made for 1978's Soft Places, which starred Annette Haven in the story of a young widow whose husband's will specifies that she can't come into her inheritance unless she allows a bunch of men to come into her. Well, not really. This is porn. Instead they come in other places, including a glass of Champagne. Anyway, since Haven was not a particularly good sex partner, her hubby's dying wishes dictate that she experience every known sexual kink in order to free her from her numerous inhibitions. Haven, apart form being nice looking, can actually act a little, but this is still porn, which means ultimately it's pretty stupid plotwise. But we can look at Haven all day. That is, as long as the Pulp Intl. girlfriends don't catch us. If you're interested, you can see Soft Places on numerous websites online. It premiered in the U.S.—yes, a real premiere in a real cinema—today in 1978.

LINDA LOVELESS
All jerks and no play make Linda a very dull movie.

Some of the other titles of the West German sexploitation flick Linda are Captive Women, Naked Super Witches of the Rio Amore, and Orgy of the Nymphomaniacs. Those should tell you everything about the content of this movie. Plotwise, it involves a woman forced to work as a prostitute at a bdsm brothel on the island of Madeira, Portugal. How that actually happens doesn't much matter. The circumstances are ridiculous, and not at all the point. The point is nudity, which is delivered often and steadily. Characterwise, almost every man in the film deserves to be drawn and quartered, which makes it too bad that doesn't actually happen. It's actually a scorpion that turns the tide and allows the heroine to finally escape.

The movie is notable really for only two things: it was one of more than 100 productions helmed by Jesús Franco, that misunderstood genius, and it features 1979 Playboy centerfold Ursula Buchfellner, billed here as Ursula Fellner. Three things, actually: it's as humorless a sexploitation flick as we've ever seen. Even Katja Bienert in the title role can't save it. No way we can recommend this one, but we wanted to show you the Italian promo poster. It has the look of pieces painted by Mafé, but he signed all his work, as far as we know, so this must just be a convincing imitation. Linda premiered in West Germany for the first time today in 1981, and don't say we didn't try to steer you away.

Bonus material: just for the hell of it, just because they exist, we've uploaded a couple of promo shots of Bienert and Buchfellner below. Their names together sound kind of like a cop show, like a prime time drama where every problem is solved within an hour. We think it would have been a hit, because they've solved our problems in just a couple of minutes. But our previous advice holds true: don't watch the movie.

DALILA DELIZIOSA
Just don't get on her bad side. She can be a real monster.

Yesterday we talked about the cute werewolves in The Howling, and today, speaking of monsters, we have a 1985 photo of Italian model and actress Dalila Di Lazzaro. What's monstrous about her? She appeared in Mario Mancini's 1972 horror film Frankenstein ’80 and 1973's Andy Warhol's Frankenstein, and in the latter she was the female monster. That's called casting against type.

HELLO FOLIES
It's so nice to have you back where you belong.

Above, assorted scans from Folies de Paris et de Hollywood #331, published in 1965, with an unknown cover star and assorted Parisian showgirls in the interior, including Julie Jourdan. We have quite a few of these in the website, and you can see them by clicking here and scrolling down.

MEIKA SCENE
The situation is becoming Seri-ous.

Continuing with our recent theme, we've done a deep search on our site and found every instance where we said we'd get back to a subject later. We can't fulfill all those promises, but we're shortening the list again today. After sharing a couple of promos of an underwear clad Meika Seri from a 1974 photo session, we said we'd reveal whether the Secret Chronicle actress shed any more clothing. Above is your answer. She shed all her clothing.

DEAR DIARY
You can also write in it, in theory at least.

Nice diary, right? Well, don't worry about using it to set down your innermost thoughts—they're already in there, because this little baby is filled with pure smut. Way back we shared some scans from a couple of true oddities we acquired—porn from Malaysia disguised as mini diaries. The first one was stamped with the logo of Syarikat Great Wall Advertising, and the second was tucked inside a cover from the Tan Liat Seng Tea Company. When we posted the Tan Liat Seng diary we mentioned that we had a third example and promised to post it soon. Well, soon is relative, especially on Pulp Intl. But we're finally getting around to keeping that promise five years later.

Above you see the cover of diary three, which is logoless save for the year—1977. Below are assorted scans from inside. Japanese actress Mari Tanaka appeared in the Tan Liat Seng diary, and she pops up in this one too. Some of the other women may be celebrities, but we can't place them. When we shared the first of these we thought they were all printed by the same company, but now we wonder if these were more like Tijuana bibles, printed by numerous companies and sold on the sly. We may never know the answer, but in any case these diaries are priceless treasures, at least to us.

BREAKING WAVE
Hey guys! You might want to get out of the water. I think I see a tsunami coming.

You may have noticed Pulp Intl. went offline for about sixteen hours. As has become tradition whenever our site goes down, we're going to win people back with some nudity. Above is glamour model Maggie Ball, who evokes in this shot that appeared in Players magazine in 1975 the coming summer, the beauty of nature, the re-establishment of connectivity, the return of worldly order, and all other good and wonderful things. Around the palatial Pulp Intl. offices we call these type of posts “naked apologies,” and we've had to resort to them a few times. Now that we've done the naked, here's the apology part: Sorry about that outage last night. Check out what our internet provider wrote us about it:

We can tell you that your bandwidth usage has spiked. Your site has received over 1.2 million total hits since midnight UTC today.

So in short, the site broke due to a traffic surge. Because of a link someone posted on Reddit, legions of visitors suddenly arrived to look at our pieces on Vikki Dougan, which caused us to run through our bandwidth. This is a temporary phenomenon, like a tidal wave. It comes, it goes, and the internet forgets, save for a few people impressed enough to become regular visitors. Our visitorship has long been above 35,000 individual sessions a month, so we have no complaints about traffic subsiding to normal levels. Our normal levels are really good. In any case, Pulp Intl. is back up. You'll notice, below, how happy Maggie is about that. And if she's happy, we're happy.

A HEFTY TAB
More pages than the competition = more readers than the competition.

Above and below, the cover and assorted interior scans from Tab published this month in 1966. We assume “Tab” is short for tabloid, and that is indeed what this publication is, a pocket sized celeb and gossip magazine, new for our collection and a nice addition to the approximately four hundred we already have inside the website. However Tab is was also at this stage partly a nudie magazine, with the random glamour shots of young models that term implies. We've talked before about how large numbers of mid-century publications transitioned from tabloid or adventure magazines to pure porn during the late 1960s and early 1970s, and we seem to have caught Tab in the midst of just such a transformation.

The magazine was put together bi-monthly by the New York City based Carnival Magazine Corporation, was launched back in 1952, best we can determine, and lasted as late as 1971. It may have been pocket sized in terms of dimensions, but it was one of the thickest offerings on the market in terms of page count—this one is an amazing one-hundred and forty-eight pages featuring Carroll Baker, Angela Webster, Bobbie Carlino, Terry Higgins, Linda Veras, the KKK, grand prix racing, eight million sex starved women, and more. The pocket size also means that the text is of readable size on our website, so we don't have to bother with a detailed description of the contents—you can read it for yourself, in more than sixty panels.

FANTASY BASEBALL
I guess in baseball terms I'd be called a free swinger.

Generally we like to share femme fatale images that haven't been seen around the internet much, if at all. Many of our images are original scans. This cute shot of Bettie Page is an exception. It's been all over the web, but we're using it because we want to stick with baseball today.

We can actually tell you a little about the shot, which other sites don't bother with. It was first published as a gatefold in a July 1957 issue of Swagger, a minor men's magazine that churned along for about a decade before folding. The issue also featured a few other shots of Page, and devoted the rear cover to her, which you see below.

If you hope to buy the issue, you can probably forget it. We've seen it going to more than $100. That might be worth it for some Page aficionados, but for that price we'd skip the mag and just go to a few baseball games. Well, we would if we lived in the U.S. Streaming is the best we can do over here. Enjoy baseball season, everyone. It seems to last forever, but somehow, it's over all too soon.

MISS LONELY HEART
A few moments of joy—an entire lifetime worth of regrets.

Here you see a promo poster for the roman porno flick Rabu Hantâ: Atsui hada, aka Love Hunter: Hot Skin, starring Pulp Intl. fave Mari Tanaka. In this one she plays a rich man's wife who indulges in an extramarital liaison, hooking up with her lover in a parked car, which thanks to some vigorous rocking generated by its occupants, goes down a hill. The lover is killed, and Tanaka suffers non-lethal injuries, though is trapped in the wreck. Thus immobilized she is victimized when a man shoots photos of the whole naked fiasco. Later he uses these photos for nefarious purposes—either Tanaka extracts blackmail cash from her husband or the photographer will show him the photos. It's really amazing the scrapes these roman porno actresses get into.

In addition to the poster above we also have a nice promo image of Tanaka below, probably her most provocative, at least that we've seen. The last image we shared of her was one we scanned that hadn't been seen online before. For that matter so was the first one we ever shared of her. But the below shot can be found on many sites, and for that reason we can't credit the original uploader because it's not possible to know who it was. But he or she did the cyberworld a service when they uploaded this one. Rabu Hantâ: Atsui hada is well worth seeing, but good luck finding it anywhere in the English speaking world. It premiered in Japan today in 1972.
