For nine years the Travis McGee books featured top quality pulp art.
American author John D. MacDonald’s popular Travis McGee series—all with colors in their titles—was published between 1964 and 1985. In late 1973 MacDonald released The Turquoise Lament, and from that point forward the McGee books never again featured high-quality pulp art. Lamentable, indeed. Below is a collection of covers spanning the golden period of McGee cover art, from 1964 to 1973. The artists were Ron Lesser, Elaine Duillo, Robert McGinnis, and others.

The Girl in the Plain Brown Wrapper, The Deep Blue Good-by, The Scarlet Ruse, The Quick Red Fox, Pale Gray for Guilt, Nightmare in Pink, A Purple Place for Dying, Dress Her in Indigo, A Tan and Sandy Silence, Bright Orange for the Shroud, A Deadly Shade of Gold, Darker than Amber, John D. MacDonald, Travis McGee, Ron Lesser, Robert McGinnis, Elaine Duillo, cover art, literature
