WORKING 69 TO 5
Hitomi Kozue finds herself Onna tough job assignment.

By now you've certainly gotten the feeling that we like Japanese actress Hitomi Kozue. We've featured her often, and above you see her on a poster for Onna hisho no kokuhaku: kaniku no shitatari, which was retitled for its English language release Confessions of a Female Secretary: Juice from the Fruit. You have to take a moment to appreciate the baroque weirdness of that title. Quite evocative, no? In addition to the theatrical promo above, we have the DVD cover below. We never share those, but this one is actually pretty nice and features an image of Kozue we hadn't seen before.

The movie deals with an office worker employed at the most Weinsteinian (or Ailesian, if you prefer) company in Tokyo. Mixed in with unwanted advances from various schlubs are Eyes Wide Shut-style masked orgies, drug induced psychedelia, woodland humping, and other kinks and extracurriculars. The end result is another roman porno effort from Nikkatsu Studios about a woman's sexual exploitation and eventual embrace of her own depravity. Ah, the wet dreams of male screenwriters—so perverted, so consistent. Onna hisho no kokuhaku: kaniku no shitatari premiered in Japan today in 1976.

BRUTE'S FORCE
The best-laid plans of mice and miscreants often go awry.

This is a striking poster. It was made for the 1970 West German movie Mädchen mit Gewalt, which in Japan was called Shiki-jou Gunrentai, and in English was called The Brutes, among other titles. Basically it's about two sexual predators who meet Helga Anders at a go-kart track and manage to maneuver her to a remote quarry, where they intend to have their way with her. It's an indication of how strange the movie is that its remainder, all seventy minutes of it, takes place in that quarry. Without getting into too much detail, cooperation between the two guys devolves into a deadly enmity, leading to an ending that will provoke comment. It all sounds pretty dodgy, we know, but it's a serious movie, not any sort of nudie flick meant to appeal to your mini-brain. In fact, the most titillating moment you'll get is when you see Astrid Boner's name in the credits. This is real cinema, with a real attempt at a message. Successful? Well... Mädchen mit Gewalt premiered in Germany in 1970, and reached Japan today in 1971.

HOT KOKO
There's nothing like a sweet treat to make your day.

Above, a poster for Kôkô Emanuelle: Nureta doyôbi, known in English by the interesting title High School Emanuelle: Wet Saturday. We tried but couldn't find a copy of this one. It stars Minako Mizushima, Yûko Asuka, and Rei Okamoto, and apparently deals with a bunch of high schoolers who take kendo classes and are lusted after by teachers and the like. That isn't much to go on, but a good image of the poster didn't exist online before today, so at least we accomplished that much. This premiered today in 1978.

WHO'S YOUR MAMI?
She's very angry with all of you.

Though we're a vintage art site, we sometimes look forward all the way into the 1980s for material, so today we have a brilliant photo and zoom of Japanese actress Mami Fujimura looking like trouble incarnate. Fujimura starred in several pinku movies in 1985 and 1986, notably the Nikikatsu roman porno Hana to hebi: Jigoku-hen, aka Flower and Rope: Sketch of Hell, and OL yûkaihan – Hagu!, which was part of the popular Office Lady series. Despite her short career, she's well remembered by Japanophiles thanks to her work in other areas. As we've noted before, Japanese actresses were relentlessly cross-marketed, and photo books were a go-to medium to raise a performer's profile. Fujimura starred in a photo book called Jōnetsu Airando, or “Passion Island,” but subtitled in English Sexual Message. It came from the publishers Shishobo in 1985, and we consider it one of the better examples of the photo book phenomenon. It's where the above image came from, and numerous others are noteworthy. To prove that, we've included the cover and a few interior pages below. No further words are needed.

THE MILE HIGH CLUB
Ladies and gentlemen, the captain has warned us to expect a few humps ahead.

A random Japanese poster for you today, a luminous promo for the roman porno flick Kokusai-sen stewardess: Kanno hiko, aka International Stewardess: Erotic Flight. Kumi Taguchi of Tokyo Deep Throat and Yuri Yamashina of Lusty Widow and this Yamaha motorcycle star in a tale that, according to what we read, is partly set in Harlem. That seems to be confirmed by the co-starring role of someone named Addis Abeba, who'll we'll assume is of African descent and whose acting credits consist of only this single movie. We can only imagine Nikkatsu Studios' undoubtedly bizarre take on the most iconic African American burg in the U.S., but try as we might we can't locate this film. Trust us, though, we will never stop looking. Kokusai-sen stewardess: Kanno hiko premiered in Japan today in 1976.

SMOOTH OPERATOR
Internal medicine has never been quite like this.

More pinku today, with a beautiful Nikkatsu Studios promo for the roman porno flick Kangofu nikki: Itazurana yubi, known in English as Nurse Diary: Wicked Finger. Etsuko Hara stars as a nurse who works at Murata Hospital and is having an affair with her boss, who hopes to inherit the chief of staff position from his wife's father. Side note for our female readers: never trust a guy who'll cheat on his wife. He'll certainly cheat on you too.

And that's exactly what happens to Etsuko, as her doctor boyfriend takes his internal medicine position literally, with any willing patient that comes along. In order to facilitate her affair with the doctor, Etsuko has moved out of the apartment she was sharing with family members, but now that looks like a mistake, as little sister Emi is left behind to suffer the tender mercies of a sexual predator—oldest sister Keiko.

Yeah, these roman porno movies go anywhere and everywhere, including places they really shouldn't, and that's before we even get to the wicked finger part. And since it wouldn't be roman porno without a totally leftfield subplot, Etsuko in her new apartment has drawn the attentions of a peeping tom, who is so driven to lust by Etsuko's yoga routine that he fantasizes about her while fucking a vacuum cleaner hose, and gets stuck.

And that's all the info we're going to give you. If you want to know where else the movie goes—and who wouldn't?—you'll have to watch it yourself. But first a test. Does the shot of Etsuko at bottom make you want to fuck a vacuum? Then take precautions and lock yours up before watching the movie. Your dick will thank you. Kangofu nikki: Itazurana yubi premiered in Japan today in 1979.

A HOLE IN HER LIFE
Tanaka is crazy like a fox in diamond hunting caper.

Nikkatsu Studios goes cute on this fun poster for the pinku comedy Kôshoku kazoku: Kitsune to tanuki, known in English as Amorous Family: Like a Fox and a Raccoon. This starred the iconic Mari Tanaka, along with Mikiko Sakai and Michiko Komori, and the story revolves around several horny sisters and the search for a missing cache of diamonds worth 200 million yen. There's the usual sex and perversion, plus a typically pinku ending steeped in irony. We also managed to track down a promo image from the same shoot that spawned the poster. Looks like it was a fun session. We'll get back to Tanaka a bit later. Kôshoku kazoku: Kitsune to tanuki premiered in Japan today in 1972.

A LITTLE CHAT
Nobody is who they seem in this crime collection.

Above are some covers from French publishers Éditions Baudelaire, specifically four entries from its collection Le Chat Noir, or Black Cat, written by various authors, and with cover art by Jacques Thibésart, who signed his work as Nik. The authors were pseudonyms too—or at least, Georges Méra and César Valentino were, which makes us pretty sure the others were, as well. Sharp eyed readers will notice that Thibésart was inspired by Hollywood's film noir wave. The first cover is definitely Dick Powell, and the male on the third cover has to be Alan Ladd from This Gun for Hire. Right? Or is that just us? Thibésart seems to have switched out Ladd's co-star Veronica Lake, though, because the female figure doesn't look anything like her. Oh, it's all such a riddle with these pen names and borrowed faces. In any case, nice art. These were all published in 1959.

A SIGHT FOR SOR EYES
Laura Gemser is a nun that likes to have fun.

Laura Gemser made more than fifty films, most of them of the erotic variety, which means we'll probably never run out of material on her to share. Above you see a Spanish poster for the her nunsploitation flick Sor Emanuelle, which was originally released in Italy as Suor Emaunelle. We already talked about the movie, but we wanted to share this unusual promo. We've never gotten the nun thing, we suppose because we aren't Catholic, or even religious for that matter, but for some reason these movies represent a full sub-genre of ’70s cinema. That being the case, it was only a matter of time before Gemser got into the habit.

She starred in this with Swiss actress Mónica Zanchi, who's billed as Mónika Zanchi. The two would pair up again a year later in Emanuelle e gli ultimi cannibali, aka Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals, another spectacularly bad sexploitation epic. In addition to the poster, we also—just because we can—wanted to share a couple of magazine images of Gemser and Zanchi, and those are just below. They're super naked. You've been warned. But these are beautiful shots. After its Italian opening in 1977 Sor Emanuelle premiered in Spain today in 1978. Check out our original write-up on the film here.

The headlines that mattered yesteryear.
June 24
1938—Chicora Meteor Lands
In the U.S., above Chicora, Pennsylvania, a meteor estimated to have weighed 450 metric tons explodes in the upper atmosphere and scatters fragments across the sky. Only four small pieces are ever discovered, but scientists estimate that the meteor, with an explosive power of about three kilotons of TNT, would have killed everyone for miles around if it had detonated in the city.

1973—Peter Dinsdale Commits First Arson
A fire at a house in Hull, England, kills a six year old boy and is believed to be an accident until it later is discovered to be a case of arson. It is the first of twenty-six deaths by fire caused over the next seven years by serial-arsonist Peter Dinsdale. Dinsdale is finally captured in 1981, pleads guilty to multiple manslaughter, and is detained indefinitely under Britain's Mental Health Act as a dangerous psychotic.

1944—G.I. Bill Goes into Effect
U.S. president Franklin D. Roosevelt signs the Servicemen's Readjustment Act into law. Commonly known as the G.I. Bill of Rights, or simply G.I. Bill, the grants toward college and vocational education, generous unemployment benefits, and low interest home and business loans the Bill provided to nearly ten million military veterans was one of the largest factors involved in building the vast American middle class of the 1950s and 1960s.
