 Competition for mates gets vicious in the Hollywood jungle. 
 This poster really catches the eye. It was made for The Female Animal, Hedy Lamarr's last motion picture, filmed when she was forty-four. It's the story of an aging star who finds herself a younger man, but watches him immediately become the target of her sexpot daughter. The age issues strain credulity a bit. The younger man is played by George Nader, who's only seven years Lamarr's junior, while twenty-nine year old Jane Powell plays Lamarr's adopted daughter. But okay, they were the ones cast, so we have to go with it. And really, who's going to complain? Nader is a muscular uberhunk who'd fill out a Marvel superhero costume no problem, and Powell is dangerously cute straining the seams of a form fitting swimsuit. And incidentally, speaking of casting weirdness, Powell—yeah, that's her in the polka dots—had three children of her own by the time she played this troublesome stepdaughter role. Yes, three. There's no substitute for lucky genes, an adage doubly proved by the fact that Powell is still kicking around today at age 90.
Moving on to the performances, Lamarr does fine in a sort of detached way, and Nader is solid enough, but it's Powell who's asked to spark the movie as the daughter determined to steal her mom's man. She's required at turns to be blind drunk, violently angry, coquettish, sexually predatory, and disconsolate. She mostly hauls that heavy load, but in the end the movie is still pretty lightweight. Probably part of the problem is the scripting by Robert Hill. Some of his other screenplays include Sex Kittens Go to College and The Private Lives of Adam and Eve, so his insights into the female animal are negligible. You may want to seek your own, though frankly, we personally have never figured them out and have abandoned any expectations that we ever will. To be fair, they probably feel the same way about us. The Female Animal premiered in New York City today in 1958.                
 To Bibi or not to Bibi? That's a rhetorical question. 
Remember way back when we talked about the Marie Forså sexploitation flick Bibi? Probably not. It was years ago. In any case we found a collection of promo images from the film and we're not going to pass up an excuse to revisit it because, though the film is not great, Forså and women like her are historical treasures, artifacts of a type of cinema that has all but disappeared. Some say that's a good thing. We don't. To have sex is biologically hardwired into us, and it's constantly on our minds, therefore exploring its possibilities in media—whether visual, written, musical, or merely spoken—is about as normal a compulsion as we can imagine. Bibi is a helluva piece of media. It was made in Sweden but these promos are West German, and show Forså and co-stars Anke Syring, Birgit Zamulo, et al., in a colorful light. Bibi, aka Girl Meets Girl, aka Confessions of a Sex Kitten, premiered in West Germany today in 1974.               
 Marie Forså is clean as a whistle. 
We already covered the Swedish sexploitation flick Flossie back in December and paired the write-up with a West German promo poster. Above you see an exceedingly rare Japanese promo for the same film, with young star Marie Forså giving us various O-faces, as well as reclining nude in the center.  Flossie regularly is good for your mental health 
Yes, Marie Forså is back in another of her popular sexploitation romps. We just checked her out in 1973's Der Fluch der schwarzen Schwestern, saw her a while back in Bibi, and here she is again in 1974's Flossie, aka Swedish Sex Kitten. We could tell you the movie is good, but there's barely any movie to recommend. In the same way a chocolate chip cookie is just a delivery system for sugar, a production like this is just a delivery system for boners. This one takes two passes at that goal, with a softcore version, and a harder iteration with some actual penetration scenes edited in. Despite the audience's most fervent wishes, these aren't Forså's furry nether regions having a grand opening, but some other natural blonde's, woven in cleverly enough that some viewers may not notice. But you know the old rule—if the face isn't in the edit, a body double gets the credit. We've now watched three Forså movies and we think that'll about fill our lifetime quota. They're all the same—sweet, easy to enjoy, and with some gooey parts. Just like chocolate chip cookies. The above poster was made for Flossie's West German premiere, where it began delivering boners today in 1974.

 You know, after all we’ve shared I feel strange just dumping him in a salad.  
Vila på sex, starring Marie Forså, was one of those mid-seventies softcore films that was also released in a fully x-rated version. Add to that the international releases and you get a film with many retitlings, among them Baby Love, Girl Meets Girl, and Confessions of a Sex Kitten. But basically, outside its native Sweden it was mostly known as Bibi, which is the title it retained for its Japanese premiere, today in 1974. Sixteen year-old Bibi is an innocent girl who leaves her home in the sticks for her aunt’s boarding school and immediately starts going at it hot and heavy with the resident lesbians—and one zucchini. Bibi decides she likes sex, whether animal or vegetable, and begins seducing her way around town. She sleeps with her aunt’s friend, the local stud, and a female swimming club, and in the process spends a large percentage of the second half of the movie naked. All good fun at first, but because there’s no such thing as consequence-free sex in cinema—even in the unfettered seventies—troubles soon result. But under Joe Sarno’s sedate direction Bibi never gets too heavy—in the end some tears are shed, confessions made, and lessons learned. Perhaps only the zucchini was truly harmed. As a side note, we aren’t sure yet, but we think much of Bibi’s footage was recycled for another sexploitation film called Flossie, released the same year by the same director and utilizing the same cast. The trial occurred even though the play had run for a year and had been seen by 325,000 people. However West's considerable popularity, already based on her risque image, only increased due to the controversy. 1971—Manson Sentenced to Death
In the U.S, cult leader Charles Manson is sentenced to death for inciting the murders of Sharon Tate and several other people. Three accomplices, who had actually done the killing, were also sentenced to death, but the state of California abolished capital punishment in 1972 and neither they nor Manson were ever actually executed. 1923—Yankee Stadium Opens
In New York City, Yankee Stadium, home of Major League Baseball's New York Yankees, opens with the Yankees beating their eternal rivals the Boston Red Sox 4 to 1.
