Above is a National Police Gazette featuring Frances Vorne, aka “The Shape,” an aspiring actress who appeared on covers and centerspreads in such magazines as Yank, Bits of Beauty and Swimsuit Revue during the mid-1940s. Vorne’s high water mark was probably being named Pin-Up Girl of the Year for 1944 by the Associated Press. She was able to parlay that scrap of recognition into a screen test for Twentieth Century Fox, which, though announced with much ballyhoo, failed to lead to a silver screen career. Her Gazette cover, which is the last time we hear from her, is from May 1947. The Yank photo below is from two years earlier, February 1945.
